Welcome to North East Regina
The North East neighbourhood is bordered by the Uplands neighbourhood to the north of Ring Road, the Warehouse District to the south of the CNR rail line, the Ross Industrial Lands to the east of Winnipeg Street and the Coronation Park neighbourhood to the west of Albert Street. Churchill Downs, Churchill Place, Cityview, Highland Park, a section of Mount Pleasant and North Annex are located within the North East neighbourhood boundaries.
The North East neighbourhood was developed during the 1950s and 1960s. Current housing is a mix of rental and ownership. The large veteran lots located near Broad Street are a unique, historic feature of the neighbourhood. As well, North East is home to the Northgate Mall, Regina’s first enclosed shopping centre.
There have been recent improvements to Dover, St. Anne and Imperial parks. Imperial Park features an outdoor rink, a spray pad, a skateboard pod, picnic area, walking paths and benches. There is a small toboggan hill in St. Anne Park and a play structure in Dover Park.

The North East Community has a total population of 7,640 residents which is an increase of 4.37% from the 2011 census (7,320 residents in total).
The largest distribution of residents (by age) within the North East Community is the 25 to 29 years of age group (with 725 total residents) followed by the 30 to 34 years of age group (with 600 total residents) and then by the 20 to 24 and 0 to 4 years of age groups (with 505 total residents each).
The largest population group (aged 15 and over) by marital status within the North East Community is the Married individuals demographic with 35.52% of the total population (or 2,245 individuals). This is followed by Never Married individuals demographic with 31.25% of the total population (or 1,975 individuals). The remaining 33.23% (or 2,100 individuals) are included with the Separated, Widowed, Divorced, and Living Common-Law individuals demographics.
The North East Community has a total of 3,540 households. This is broken down into 38.61% being single occupant households (1,365 total households) and then 33.66% being double occupancy households (1,190 total households) and finally triple or more occupancy making up the remaining 27.73% (985 total households).
The average household income within the North East Community is $67,800 (before tax). This is broken down into 17.79% of individuals receiving between $20,000 to $29,999 in income per year followed by 14.86% of individuals receiving between $10,000 to $19,999 in income per year and then by 13.91% of individuals receiving between $40,000 to $49,999 in income per year.
The North East Community was originally an unincorporated settlement (village) within the Rural Municipality of Sherwood and called North Annex, It was developed around 1915 to provide housing for both railway workers with the Canadian National Railways and industrial workers associated with the Imperial Oil Refinery.
Postwar, the city adopted a de facto metropolitan form of government by annexing the independent village of North Regina in 1951. In both cases, the prime motivating factor in amalgamation was the prospect of getting connected to the city’s water lines for drinking water and sewage for the residents.
The North East neighbourhood includes the large lot subdivision of Churchill Downs which is a unique historic feature of the community, created for veterans of the Second World War, Churchill Place, Cityview, Highland Park, North Annex and a section of Mount Pleasant. North East is home to Northgate Mall, Regina’s first enclosed shopping centre.

The North East Community Centre is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers and is the hub of programming for the North East Community Association and is also available for booking other community based programs and private functions.
The North East Community Association is a hub of resources, partnerships, information, activity programming and events to connect people, families and groups within the North East Community. This devoted group of volunteers works with various groups and partners to offer programming, activities and events for a healthy vibrant community, one in which we all want to live within.
